If you're looking for challenging golf courses in exceptional settings, you'll want to swing through Northern Alberta. You'll find more demanding courses than you can shake a sand wedge at.  In Alberta's north the sun sets a lot later in the day enabling you to golf longer on warm summer evenings.  You'll find the pace of golfing more relaxing and day trips to many fine courses are only an hour or two away from major cities.  Grande Prairie and Fort McMurray offer great golfing experiences with all the amenities major cities enjoy.  Golfing in the smaller centers such as Athabasca, Whitecourt, Westlock, Barrhead and Grande Cache offer exceptional golfing at affordable prices.  If you haven't golfed in Slave Lake or the Mighty Peace River regions, you're missing a great experience.
